Air Accident Investigation Unit (Ireland) (AAIU)

Description

Ireland's Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) is responsible for the investigation of aircraft accidents, serious incidents and incidents that occur within the country. The unit also provides assistance for foreign safety investigation authorities who conduct investigations into occurrences involving Irish-registered and/or operated aircraft outside of Ireland.

The AAIU is part of Irish Department of Transport and chief inspector of air accidents reports directly to the minister of transport.

Investigations are conducted in accordance of with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13, Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation, European Union Regulation No 996/2010 and Statutory Instrument No. 460 of 2009.
