SE081: Turbulence Injury Reduction – Galley Handholds - New Production

Background

The purpose of this Safety Enhancement is to reduce turbulence injuries to flight attendants (FAs) and passengers through improved situational awareness, turbulence encounter management procedures (before, during and after encounter), enhanced communication and identification and installation of effective cabin design safety features. SE081 calls for:

  1. Determining the best design for handholds in aircraft galleys,
  2. Establishing best practices for procedures and national training materials,
  3. Installing the recommended products in new production aircraft, and
  4. Revising FA and pilot procedures and training programs.

This safety enhancement is not currently on the CAST Plan, but might be included in the future. In that event, the attached Implementation Plan would be revised prior to inclusion.
