SE083: Turbulence Injury Reduction - Cabin Equipment Other than Handholds – New Production and Retrofit (R-D)

Background

This safety enhancement outlines research and development (R&D) topics needed to reduce turbulence injuries to flight attendants and passengers through improved situational awareness, turbulence encounter management procedures (before, during and after encounter), enhanced communication and identification of effective cabin design safety features.

SE083 calls for the identification and evaluation of turbulence-friendly, currently-available cabin interior products (other than handholds) for possible installation in new production and retrofit in legacy aircraft. R&D is required to determine implementation feasibility and the cost-effectiveness of candidate systems.

This safety enhancement is not currently on the CAST Plan, but might be included in the future. In that event, the attached Implementation Plan would be revised prior to inclusion.
