EASA Basic Regulation

From SKYbrary Wiki

The principal objective of Regulation (EU) No 2018/1139 (commonly referred to as "EASA Basic Regulation") is to establish and maintain a high uniform level of civil aviation safety in Europe by implementing common rules in the field of civil aviation and establishing an independent European Aviation Safety Agency overseeing the uniform implementation of all necessary acts by the national aviation authorities.

The tasks of EASA include:

  • Drafting of implementing rules in all fields pertinent to the EASA mission (e.g. air operations, ATM/ANS, airport operations, aircraft manufacturing and maintenance);
  • Certification and & approval of products and organisations, in fields where EASA has exclusive competence (e.g. airworthiness);
  • Oversight and support to EU Member States in fields where EASA has shared competence (e.g. air operations, ATM);
  • Implementing the Single European Sky;
  • Promoting the use of European and worldwide standards.
