  • ATC procedures:
    • Due to proximity to the north magnetic pole, magnetic variation is not constant; therefore all direction is measured with reference to True North.
    • Takeoffs are normally from Rwy 26T and landings on Rwy 08T.
  • Runway friction: The runway is painted white with red markings. This reduces the braking efficiency even in dry conditions but especially when it is contaminated. Appropriate corrections should be made to takeoff and landing performance calculations. See the following SKYbrary article for generic guidance: Runway Surface Friction
  • Turbulence: When the surface wind exceeds 30 kts from 125 deg - 185 deg T expect moderate turbulence to 5000 ft and severe downdrafts on final approach to Rwy 08T.
