Visual Flight Rules (VFR)

Description

Visual Flight Rules (VFR) are the rules that govern the operation of aircraft in Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) (clear weather conditions). Because of the limited communications and/or navigation equipment, VFR flight is not usually permitted within controlled airspace. Where VFR flight is permitted in controlled airspace, the appropriate conditions are detailed in national Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs).

Minimum requirements for VFR flight are detailed in JAR-OPS-1.
