There is wide acceptance of the EU’s Directives and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and the benefits they bring to organisations. However, there is great difficulty in translating DEI into action, even if there is a political and social desire for change. In the case of aviation and aerospace organisations, it can be difficult to implement DEI ideas and concepts, and the large number of initiatives and resources that are available presents an even greater challenge for these organisations. It can therefore be argued that there is a clear need for information on how to approach DEI in a simple, effective and coordinated way. In the field of aviation, there is an even greater need for a common approach for the industry as a whole that can also be tailored to specific needs. The aim of this toolkit is to provide pragmatic and efficient approaches to achieve DEI while complementing, mapping and referring to existing initiatives to ensure that double work and fragmented efforts can be avoided.
